What do I bring to class?
To attend a yoga
class, you don't need much. I ask each student in class to bring your
own yoga mat. If you don't have a mat, I have some used ones that
people can borrow, or you can buy a used mat from me for $5. If you are
coming to a your first class as a free try, you can simply borrow one
of my mats. After that, you should have your own mat and bring it to
each class. One note about mats: make sure you buy a yoga mat, not a
pilates mat. If you mat says pilates, it probably won't work very well
for yoga.
Beyond the yoga mat, there is nothing else you need to bring unless you wish to. I have blankets, blocks, belts and eye pillows for you to use in class. Some people like to bring their own props, and that is fine. If you have a meditation pillow, feel free to bring that, too. A bottle of water is also a good idea.
What do I wear to yoga class?
Dress as you would for athletics. Wear layers in the cold weather months, so you can adjust as you warm up and cool down in your yoga practice. Most men wear sweats or shorts and a t-shirt or sweatshirt. Women usually wear stretchy pants or shorts, with a comfortable top.
Keep in mind that you will be moving, bending forward and stretching in yoga, so flexible clothes are important. Jeans and other casual pants are not usually flexible enough.
Also: we practice yoga in bare feet, so be prepared to remove your shoes and socks when you come to class.
